Southwest Florida Woman Arrested For Lighting Hotel Hallway On Fire

Fort Myers, FL - A woman was arrested on Thursday after she allegedly lit the hallway of a Southwest Florida hotel on fire.

The Fort Myers Fire Department (FMFD) swiftly contained the fire at the Rodeway Inn on Cleveland Avenue in Fort Myers early Thursday morning.

Investigations revealed that the fire originated in a hallway, allegedly started by 29-year-old Shaquille Ashley who set an item ablaze.

Cameras captured fire crews arriving at the hotel around 4:00 a.m., with the state fire marshal leading the investigation.

Footage captured smoke emanating from the building's rear and firefighters entering the structure.

Fortunately, the fire caused no injuries.

Fort Myers Police Department Public Information Officer Kristin Capuzzi told NBC 2 News "We located him at the Sam's Club plaza and arrested him within the hour."

However, occupants of 11 rooms were evacuated and relocated to another building.

Authorities are actively investigating the incident.
