SUV Flips, Crashes Into Shop After Driver Flees Wild Roundabout Wreck

Bonita Springs, FL - A driver in Bonita Springs faces DUI charges after a high-speed roundabout crash that left his SUV flipped and lodged in an auto repair shop.

Police say 23-year-old Marcos Diego-Manuel was allegedly speeding westbound on East Terry Street at nearly double the posted limit of 35 mph when he approached the intersection with Old 41 Road at 1:54 am.

Security footage captured the harrowing incident, which showed Diego-Manuel lose control of his SUV as he entered the roundabout.

The vehicle flipped multiple times after striking the center island, before colliding with a palm tree and coming to a rest after smashing into the entrance of a nearby auto repair shop.

Diego-Manuel emerged from the wreckage through the sunroof and fled the scene on foot.

A passerby witnessed the crash and called 911.

According to police reports, Diego-Manuel eventually returned to the scene and submitted to a sobriety test.

The results indicated a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .21, significantly exceeding the legal limit in Florida of .08.

Diego-Manuel was arrested and charged with driving under the influence (DUI), hit-and-run, and a moving traffic violation.
