Fort Lauderdale, FL - A 58-year-old South Florida man faces a federal murder-for-hire charge after attempting to solicit an undercover agent to carry out the killing of a business rival.
According to court documents, Makram Khashman approached a confidential informant with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) seeking assistance in eliminating a rival.
The informant, unable to fulfill the request, connected Khashman with an undercover ATF agent posing as a hitman.
The arranged meeting took place on February 29th in Plantation.
During their conversation, Khashman expressed his desire to have the victim "gone" using an effortless method such as an injection.
The undercover agent quoted a price range of $5,000 to $10,000 depending on the complexity of the job.
Khashman expressed urgency and a willingness to pay $5,000, claiming others had offered the same price.
He agreed to provide the agent with a photograph, address, daily routine, and other details about the target.
He also mentioned the victim typically carried a large sum of cash on Saturdays due to employee payroll.
A follow-up encounter occurred on March 19th at the same location, where Khashman provided the requested information and a $2,500 down payment.
The conversation, captured on a recording device worn by the agent, confirmed Khashman's intent.
Khashman is currently detained in the Broward Main Jail awaiting a pretrial detention hearing scheduled for April 5th.
