A U.S. veteran was found strangled to death at the West Palm Beach Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
The victim's roommate inside the hospital's acute mental health unit is charged in the man's murder after confessing to a nurse.
But little is known beyond that and Congressman Brian Mast, a wounded war veteran, wants answers. That includes how long it took to find the body in the bathroom.
“What was the time frame it took before the individual was found accused murdered? It appears as though certainly the hours in between this. If there were hours, what kind of rounds were supposed to be taking place that didn’t take place."
33-year old Christopher Schweikart faces a first degree murder charge.
Statement from the Department of Veterans Affairs:
“We are deeply saddened by the death of a Veteran at our facility on March 16 - our thoughts and condolences are with the Veteran’s loved ones. We immediately notified the Office of Inspector General of this tragic incident and are fully cooperating with the investigation. Because this investigation is ongoing, we cannot comment further at this time - and we refer all questions to the authorities leading the investigation.”
