Miami-Dade, FL - A man shot and killed himself inside a South Florida home in front of his girlfriend, who was also struck by the bullet that killed him.

Authorities say the tragic shooting occurred on Wednesday morning at a resident on Southwest 30th Street in Miami-Dade County.

Police responded to a reported shooting at the residence, and upon arrival, officers discovered a man with a fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound and his girlfriend wounded by the same bullet.

Detective Alvaro Zabaleta, a Miami-Dade PD spokesperson, told NBC Miami "Everything is indicating...that the same projectile that impacted his head was the one that impacted the female as well. It appears that this individual took his own life and, in the process, almost took his girlfriend's life as well."

The woman, who called 911 herself, was transported to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in stable condition.

Authorities confirmed the victim has four children (ages 5-12) from previous relationships who were being cared for by family members at the scene.

An investigation into Wednesday's shooting is ongoing.

Details surrounding the couple's conversation before the shooting yet to be released.
