New Smyrna Beach Officer Arrested on Domestic Violence Charges

New Smyrna Beach, FL - A New Smyrna Beach police officer was arrested at her residence on Tuesday following a domestic violence incident with her fiance.

According to investigators, Jessica Schuchardt’s fiancé reported that upon arriving home, he discovered incriminating text messages on her phone. 

A confrontation between the fiance and Schuchardt led to Schuchardt allegedly grabbing the victim by the throat, shoving him, and placing him in a chokehold.

Schuchardt faces charges of felony domestic violence by strangulation and misdemeanor battery. 

The department has placed Schuchardt on administrative leave pending the outcome of both the criminal case and an internal investigation.

The New Smyrna Beach Police Department released a statement regarding Schuchardt's arrest, stating "we take domestic violence allegations very seriously. A disciplinary determination will be made at the conclusion of the investigation."
