Man Arrested For Impersonating Police Officer in Road Rage Incident

Naples, FL - A Naples road rage episode took a dangerous turn on Monday, culminating in a disturbing confrontation involving a firearm and allegations of police impersonation.

Reports from the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office detail the incident, which unfolded on Collier Blvd and Business Circle N around 5:31 p.m., prompting responses from law enforcement.

According to witnesses, the altercation erupted between two men, with the initial caller reporting that the driver of a black Silverado brandished a firearm, pointing it at them while driving.

Upon arrival at the scene, a deputy interviewed both parties involved.

The complainant, identified as John Freeman, recounted a scenario where the Silverado driver, later identified as Raymond Joseph Abreu Jr., allegedly cut him off and abruptly halted, sparking a heated exchange.

Freeman claimed that when he confronted the driver, he was met with a handgun aimed directly at him.

Abreu, in contrast, asserted self-defense, contending that the weapon was drawn due to a misunderstanding on the road.

However, discrepancies in Abreu's narrative, coupled with his admission of no longer being affiliated with the Hingham Harbor Master division for over a year, prompted the deputy to question his law enforcement status.

Subsequent investigation revealed that Abreu, despite possessing a concealed carry permit and badge, was retired from active duty and had no current affiliation with any police department.

Authorities seized Abreu's Glock 43X and holster as evidence, linking them to the aggravated assault charge.

Abreu now faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and impersonating a law enforcement officer in the commission of a felony.
