Miami, FL - A 30-year-old man was arrested yesterday on charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer after allegedly pulling a gun on a security guard at a construction site in Brickell.
According to reports, the incident occurred last Friday when the suspect, identified as Melvin Steven Calero, parked his car illegally within the 830 Brickell construction site.
When confronted by a security guard, Calero became irate and engaged in an argument.
The situation escalated further when Calero allegedly drew a gun and threatened the guard, stating, "I will shoot you and the only reason I'm leaving is to see my customers."
Authorities claim the guard managed to capture video footage on their phone showing Calero pointing the gun and uttering a verbal threat, "You might get shot up over some stupid s---."
Following an investigation, Miami police located Calero at his residence in Westchester on Tuesday.
During his arrest, Calero reportedly informed officers about a gun in his waistband, which was later confirmed to be a 9mm Glock pistol.
He exercised his right to remain silent.
A judge determined sufficient evidence to charge Calero with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, a charge applicable to security personnel.
Currently, he is being held at Miami-Dade's Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $5,000 bond.
