Cape Coral, FL - A Southwest Florida man was arrested Tuesday night following a destructive and violent incident at his ex-girlfriend's residence.
Police responded to reports of a disturbance around 6:30 p.m. at the 400 block of S.W. 19th Lane in Cape Coral.
Upon arrival, officers encountered, Yoandrys Gonzalez, who allegedly attempted to enter the home by ramming a parked Volvo and the garage door with his truck.
Witnesses also reported he attempted to light the house on fire.
Gonzalez resisted arrest and assaulted two officers before being apprehended.
Investigations revealed significant damage to the property, including the parked vehicle, garage door, and the house itself.
Furthermore, a DUI investigation confirmed Gonzalez was under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time.
According to reports, Gonzalez had been separated from his ex-girlfriend for over a year and arrived at her residence uninvited and intoxicated.
He was charged with burglary (1st Degree Felony), resisting officer with violence, battery on a law enforcement officer, driving under the influence (DUI), refusal to submit to a DUI test, DUI property damage, and criminal mischief.
