South Florida Man Arrested on Dozen Felony Charges

Miami-Dade, FL -

Nicolas D. Vega, a 26-year-old resident of west Miami-Dade, expressed his disdain for law enforcement with a chest tattoo boldly declaring “F--- the police.”

Officers discovered this sentiment after apprehending him on nearly a dozen felony charges on Sunday.

According to Miami-Dade police, Vega is accused of stealing an SUV from a McDonald’s in Miami, along with pilfering almost a dozen bank and identification cards.

The incident unfolded around 4:30 Sunday afternoon when officers received a report of a “suspicious vehicle” at Vega’s residence in the 8300 block of Southwest 10th Street in the Westchester area.

Upon arrival, police observed Vega driving a silver Chevrolet Trailblazer around the block, entering and exiting it multiple times.

Upon checking the license plate, officers discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen earlier that day from a McDonald’s about a mile away in Miami’s Flagami neighborhood.

After parking in his driveway, Vega attempted to enter another SUV, a Chevrolet Tahoe, with two other individuals inside.

Law enforcement moved in, detaining all three individuals.

Witnesses, described as friends of Vega, claimed they happened to be driving by, saw him outside, and stopped to greet him.

They confirmed seeing Vega driving the stolen Trailblazer but were unaware of its ownership.

During the arrest, police found Vega’s wallet in a cross-body bag containing 10 bank and identification cards belonging to two victims: the person who reported the stolen vehicle and the vehicle owner.

As Vega was transported to jail on charges including grand theft auto and possession of stolen identification cards, he yelled out the window to a detective, mentioning, “My skateboard and bags are in the car!”

Vega, facing a bond of over $30,000 on charges that also include possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia, remains in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Monday afternoon.
