Hit and Run DUI Fatal In Citrus Leads To Charges for Lake County Man

HERNANDO (Citrus County) -- A Lake County man is facing DUI manslaughter charges in a deadly hit and run crash in Citrus County.

The Florida Highway Patrol says 31-year-old Brandon Vanzant already had a suspended license when he passed traffic on State Road 200 (Carl G. Rose Highway) Sunday afternoon, and slammed his F-150 pickup truck into the back of a Honda Accord sedan.

That car crashed into a northbound truck, also an F-150, killing the 62 year old driver from Lecanto. The other driver also suffered minor injuries.

Troopers say they found Vanzant hiding in a pasture unhurt, after abandoning his truck.

Vanzant faces charges that include DUI Manslaughter, Vehicular Homicide, Leaving the Scene with Death and Injuries, and Driving While License Suspended, with death.
