Dania Beach, FL - A 33-year-old man has been arrested for attacking a Dania Beach hotel worker after his credit card was declined multiple times.
Bernardo Gray, 33, is now facing serious charges after allegedly delivering a "sucker punch" to the hotel employee, leaving him with a permanent scar and shaken nerves.
According to a Broward Sheriff's Office arrest warrant, Gray's attempt to secure a room at the Avid Hotel on December 11th took a nasty turn when his card "declined several times."
Frustration mounted as Gray's attempts to manually enter the card number and pay without a chip were met with polite refusal from the front desk worker.
In a flash of rage, Gray reportedly slapped the unsuspecting employee across the face while he was looking down.
But the hotel worker's pursuit of Gray's license plate number outside the building only escalated the situation.
The warrant details how Gray, upon exiting his BMW, approached the worker and unleashed a devastating punch to the face.
The blow sent the victim tumbling to the ground, unconscious. By the time he regained consciousness, Gray had vanished.
The assault had a lasting impact.
The worker sustained a "severe laceration" requiring medical attention, leaving him with a permanent reminder of the ordeal.
Thankfully, Gray's escape was short-lived.
Authorities, aided by crucial surveillance footage capturing both the slap and the punch, managed to track him down at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on the night of January 16th.
Apparently, Gray was attempting to board a flight when his past caught up with him.
Gray's arrest revealed a lengthy criminal history in Broward County, including two pending grand theft cases.
This latest incident landed him in the BSO Main Jail, facing charges of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm and misdemeanor battery. His bond sits at a hefty $16,000.
