Prosecutors: Former School Board Member Made $100K in Unauthorized Charges

Former Miami-Dade School Board member Lubby Navarro is facing up to 55 years in prison after she's accused of charging at least $100,000 worth of personal expenses on her school board credit cards.

There was an extensive scheme to defraud that went on for several months. The weight of the evidence in this case is very strong, " said Assistant State Attorney Annette Rasco.

Navarro's attorney Ben Kuehne entering a not guilty plea on Navarro's behalf. Kuehne promises to contest all the underlying facts.

Due to a state law that prevents some elected officials from being lobbyists, Navarro resigned from the school board at the end of 2022. After her arrest, she was suspended from the South Broward Hospital District.
