Alva, FL — A woman, Shannon Hogan, is now facing charges following a crash in Alva that resulted in a horse trailer flipping over on October 13. Hogan, 46, has been charged with multiple offenses, including DUI with unlawful blood alcohol levels, driving with a suspended license, and a nonmoving traffic violation.
The incident unfolded near the intersection of Packinghouse Road and Palm Beach Boulevard in Alva. It involved a horse trailer and three vehicles, one of them a Hummer belonging to the family friends of Alyssa Velin. The horse had been newly acquired earlier that day and was in the back trailer of the Hummer when the accident occurred.
According to eyewitnesses, a vehicle ran a red light, prompting the driver of the Hummer to swerve to avoid a collision. However, the horse trailer, carrying the newly acquired horse, flipped over due to the abrupt movement, causing chaos at the intersection.
Mike Katz, who works nearby, heard the commotion and quickly rushed to the scene. He helped rescue the individuals from the Hummer and then turned his attention to the horse trailer. The horse inside, though shaken, only suffered minor injuries and had a small gash on its neck.
Thanks to the quick actions of those present, the horse and all the passengers in the Hummer emerged relatively unharmed from the incident. Shannon Hogan was arrested, and she now faces multiple charges, including DUI and driving with a suspended license, after her blood alcohol level was found to be over the legal limit.
