Miami-Dade, FL - A South Florida woman has been arrested in connection with the alleged robbery of a nearly million-dollar Richard Mille watch during the Miami Open tennis tournament at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.
Miami-Dade police arrested 39-year-old Sonia Montenegro Bolanos, a Colombian citizen in the U.S. on a "non-immigrant visa," on charges of strong-arm robbery and conspiracy to commit strong-arm robbery on Friday.
The incident, which allegedly involved the theft of a $750,000 Richard Mille watch, took place during the tennis tournament in Miami Gardens.
Police say that on April 2nd, Montenegro Bolanos reportedly approached a 38-year-old man as he stood on a pedestrian sky bridge preparing to leave the stadium.
The victim stated that he was bumped from behind and, upon turning around, found Montenegro Bolanos with two fingers between his watchband and wrist.
In an attempt to prevent the theft of his watch, the victim immediately grabbed hold of it.
A struggle ensued, during which a second woman, known only by her last name "Sabogal" in the arrest warrant, seized the watch and passed it to an unknown third person.
The victim managed to grab both women, but the situation escalated when Montenegro Bolanos began screaming "rape."
In response to her cries, the victim released the two women, and they fled toward parking lot 18.
The entire incident was captured on surveillance video, serving as evidence in the case.
Sabogal, also identified as a Colombian citizen, is alleged to be in the U.S. illegally.
Both women are considered flight risks and may attempt to flee either to Colombia or another state.
As of Monday, Montenegro Bolanos was no longer listed in the jail database.
The current whereabouts of Sabogal remain unclear.
Authorities are seeking additional information about the robbery or any details related to the third individual involved.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
