Assault Near Florida Keys Landmark Caught on Webcam Leads to Arrest

Key West, FL - A man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and five years of probation after he was filmed assaulting a woman behind the Southernmost Point marker in Key West.

The video footage captured the suspect, identified as Kerry Calvin Gasag, restraining the woman in a headlock, and as she resists, forcing her behind the marker, where prosecutors allege that he sexually assaulted her.

Unbeknownst to Gasag, a live webcam captured the entire assault.

A 911 dispatcher situated 1,600 miles away in Boston was monitoring the webcam feed and contacted Key West Police.

Gasag's arrest report states that witnesses in Key West also called police after witnessing a "nude female, crying and screaming."

Officers met with the victim at a nearby hotel and discovered she had been sexually assaulted earlier in the night off Duval Street.

When questioned by police, Gasag claimed he intervened to "rescue" the victim and provide her with transportation.

However, instead of assisting her, he took her to the iconic buoy location and sexually assaulted her.

Gasag was apprehended, and nearly two years later, pled guilty to all charges.

On Thursday, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison and five years of probation.

Another suspect involved in the incident has also been arrested and is scheduled for a hearing later this month.
