Southwest Florida is pausing to remember the devastation caused by Category Four Hurricane Ian one year ago today.
It started with a ‘Hurricane Ian Sunrise Remembrance’ service on Sanibel Island followed by a ceremony at Fort Myers Beach's newly restored Bayside Park.
More than a dozen local and state leaders including the Lt. Governor, state CFO and State Emergency Management Director spoke at the event.
All promised to never forget the pain and suffering Southwest Florida endured and vowed to keep helping them rebuild.
Many of the officials then made their way less than a half-mile to unveil the new Times Square Clock which replaces the iconic one destroyed by the storm.
Hurricane Ian killed 151 people, caused about 112-billion-dollars in property damages and is considered Florida's costliest hurricane.
