St. Petersburg, FL - A man from St. Petersburg, Florida, has been taken into custody on charges of kidnapping and attempted sexual assault after a woman mistakenly entered his vehicle, believing him to be her Uber driver.
Pinella County Sheriff's Office online booking records confirm that Kenneth Levelle Streeter, aged 32, was apprehended on Tuesday.
The incident, reported by the Tampa Bay Times, unfolded on Saturday, as stated by the St. Petersburg Police Department. According to an arrest affidavit, the victim, who had consumed alcohol, had requested an Uber ride but inadvertently got into a blue Ford Explorer driven by Streeter instead.
Unfortunately, the woman failed to notice that she was not in the correct vehicle and did not pay attention to the direction in which she was being driven, as indicated by her app. The situation took a sinister turn when Streeter parked the car behind an apartment complex and entered the back seat, allegedly attempting to sexually assault the woman.
In her desperate bid to escape, the woman tried to leave the vehicle but was forcefully pulled back by Streeter, as described in the affidavit. Eventually, she managed to flee after brandishing a pocket knife. Disturbingly, the alleged assault was captured on video, providing crucial evidence for the case.
As of now, Streeter remains confined in Pinellas County Jail with a bail amount of $200,000, as per the online booking records available on Wednesday.
