A warning to parents to keep those melatonin, CBD or THC gummies away from children.

The medical director of Florida's Poison Control Center says young kids are getting a hold of them and having medical issues, and it's all because they think the gummies are simply candy.

“Not a day goes by where I don’t get a call about a child that’s gotten into one of these gummy products. They look like candy right? It shouldn’t be a big mystery why they’re attracted to it."

Dr. Jeffrey Bernstein tells CBS 12 News that in some cases, children need to be put on a ventilator for a little while because they have trouble breathing.

The THC gummies are the biggest concern, but children should also not be eating melatonin or CBD gummies.

Common symptoms to look out for include nausea, confusion and when kids get extremely lethargic.

If you think your child may have eaten too many gummies, maybe they’re acting strange or unusual, you can call Florida’s Poison Control Centers at 1-800-222-1222. Their services are free and confidential.

In the meantime, the center is urging parents who have these products in the house to make sure they’re being kept out of reach for children. It can be as simple as a cabinet lock or it can be something more durable.
