St. Augustine, FL - Three juveniles caused chaos at a Florida movie theater on Saturday by igniting fireworks, leading to an evacuation, arrests, and an ongoing investigation by police.
In an incident that sparked panic, three juveniles have been accused of setting off fireworks inside a St. Augustine movie theater, prompting the evacuation of the premises, as reported by the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office through a Facebook post.
The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office responded to numerous reports of an explosion at the Epic Theater on Theatre Drive around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered three juveniles had ignited at least two ground-to-air fireworks inside the theater, which was occupied at the time.
The juveniles fled the theater before deputies arrived.
As a precautionary measure, the theater was temporarily evacuated while deputies searched the area.
Deputies located and arrested two of the juveniles involved, who were found lighting more fireworks near Wildwood Drive and US 1 South.
During the arrest of the juveniles, law enforcement seized approximately 60 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and additional illegal fireworks.
No injuries were reported and the theater sustained minor damage.
The juveniles were charged with arson, disorderly conduct, and felony possession of marijuana.
Efforts to identify and apprehend the third juvenile involved is underway.
