Guard at Juvenile Detention Facility Accused of Sex Acts with Detainee

Osceola County, FL - A juvenile detention facility security guard has been arrested for engaging in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old detainee.

Osceola County Sheriff's deputies arrested 32-year-old Rachelle Edwards, who worked as an overnight guard at the Kissimmee Youth Academy, a medium-security program overseen by the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice.

According to authorities, the incident came to light when a 17-year-old male detainee confided in his mother about the relationship, who promptly contacted law enforcement.

Initially, both the detainee and the suspect denied any wrongdoing when questioned.

However, the 17-year-old later came forward to authorities with his account of the events.

Authorities provided additional details, revealing that approximately three weeks after the juvenile arrived at the detention center, he received a letter from Edwards inquiring about his age.

This marked the beginning of a letter-based correspondence between the two.

At some point, the juvenile was transferred from one cell to another, specifically to a cell without surveillance cameras.

During this period, the alleged sexual misconduct occurred.

Edwards faces charges of unlawful sexual activity with a minor and indecent, lewd, or lascivious touching.
