Florida Teen Killed in Street Race, Dad Arrested for Taking Him

ST. PETERSBURG -- A St Petersburg father is facing charges after his teenage son was killed during an illegal street race.

Police say 35-year-old Johnny Martin took his 13-year-old son Ethan to the event on 28th Street and 110th Avenue North on the night of January 28th and 29th. Young Ethan stepped out into a street and was struck by a bike going over 100 miles per hour just after midnight. The crash killed him and injured a bystander.

Martin is charged with felony child neglect and being a spectator at an illegal race.

These charges come as law enforcement agencies in the Tampa Bay area continue their crackdown on street racing. Several arrests reported by Hillsborough deputies this past weekend.
