The mayor of Boca Raton says a new train station has been very popular in his city.
"(The) Brightline station opened up on December 21 and the first four weeks have been wildly successful."
Scott Singer says the high-speed rail line is even looking into changing their schedule based on the high demand. The mayor says major businesses that have been considering making a move to Boca Raton are telling him that they are taking an even deeper look because of the convenience the train station would provide to their employees.
"I think this is going to be a catalyst for a lot of things downtown."
Singer was in Washington, D.C. last week for the U.S. Conference of Mayors Winter Meeting.
"I've talked with other mayors who are excited about what's happening with the expansion of Amtrak and city-to-city rail. We've already had that and because of our partnership with Brightline and some federal grants, we're up and running already. So it's a major thing for South Florida."
Brightline currently runs between Miami and West Palm Beach, but an Orlando expansion is set for this year.
A new station opened in Aventura on the same day as the one in Boca Raton opened its doors.
