BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) -- A West Palm Beach man was killed Thursday morning while walking on I-95 in South Palm Beach County. Florida Highway Patrol tells BocaNewsNow.com that the man, 77 years old, was walking southbound on I-95 in the area of Congress Avenue when he was struck by a vehicle heading northbound.
"(The man) was in the inside lane. For reasons still under investigation, he was standing/walking in the inside lane. The front of the vehicle struck (the man)," said FHP.
The incident -- first reported around 7:10 a.m. -- created massive delays that impacted the morning commute in South Florida for several hours. At one point, traffic was backed up into north Broward County.
FHP says that no charges have been filed against the driver of the Ford utility van that hit the man. The investigation continues. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Boca Raton Fire Rescue.
