Georgia Man Sentenced for Trying to Swindle Billions from IRS

The Georgia man found guilty of trying to swindle the IRS out of nearly $3-billion now knows his fate.

Judge John Antoon sentenced David Isagba to 14 years in a federal prison for mail fraud and conspiring to defraud the United States. This new punishment comes on top Isagba's earlier conviction on a child porn conviction out of New York.

Isagba's wife, Joyce, was convicted for her role in the con last June and will be sentenced in the spring.

In a plea agreement, Isagba admitted to submitting 227 fraudulent claims to the IRS in an 11-year period that started back in 2009. He falsely claimed that he was owed more than $2.9-billion in tax refunds for trusts that never existed. He was able to get $5.8-million in refunds before the scheme collapsed.

Prosecutors say Isagba used the money to buy a home and multiple luxury vehicles.
