School Board Expected to Finish Terminating Sarasota Superintendent

SARASOTA -- The Sarasota County School Board is expected to formally remove its current superintendent tonight and choose someone to hold the job temporarily.

Superintendent Brennan Asplen has already offered his resignation and negotiated his exit so tonight's vote is expected to be a formality.

The board says it has lost trust and confidence in Asplen over several issues. But supporters of Asplen are expected to make a last-ditch show of support at the meeting, which starts at 6 pm.

The Sarasota school board could also name an interim superintendent.
