Man arrested for robbing tells police he needed the money for rent

Gainesville, FL - A man who was arrested for robbing a Publix told officers the reason he robbed the Publix was because he needed rent money.

According to police, 23-year-old Hunter Burton was arrested after robbing the Publix in Butler Plaza in Gainesville on Sunday.

Police say Burton stole $1,690.07 and $48 in postal stamps after entering the store, walking around for an hour, approaching an employee at a cash register, lifting up his shirt, showing a holstered gun, and demanding the cash in the register.

Surveillance video captured Burton running out of Publix to a silver Dodge Ram

Burton was arrested after being located at the nearby CVS, where he was paying his rent with the money he stole from the Publix.
