A Fort Pierce man is telling the story about how he and his wife were rescued from their sailboat that was caught in Hurricane Nicole on Wednesday night.

64-year old David Snow tells CBS 12 News that the vessel ran aground on a sandbar and the mast broke off. They wound up pinned underneath the North Hutchinson Island Bridge, having to call 911 and hoping for the best while the winds pounded the boat.

"God, somebody...nature...somebody was looking out for us."

Snow says it was either that or he was lucky because he's not an experienced boater.

It took a rescue crew two hours to get the pair safely off the boat and neither were injured. But it took until the next day to be reunited with the cat and dog that the couple had on their boat.

This rescue happened not far from where Nicole wound up making landfall just mere hours later.
