Cape Coral, FL - Some Southwest Florida residents will have to wait until 2023 to have their internet and TV restored following Hurricane Ian impacting the area.
During a special meeting on Wednesday, representatives from CenturyLink and Comcast Xfinity spoke to the Cape Coral City Council after Mayor John Gunter invited the companies to provide an update on restoration efforts following last month's hurricane.
Representatives from CenturyLink reported that following the hurricane, 22,000 customers were without service in Cape Coral.
However, the company's restored about 60% of their customers and still have 250 crews working throughout the city to restore services to the remaining 6,600 customers without TV or internet.
Martin Valence, a spokesperson for CenturyLink, told city officials that the last customer impacted by Ian might not have their services restored until “the first quarter of 2023.”
Meanwhile, 95% of Xfinity customers have their services restored.
Xfinity Senior Manager of External Affairs Jen Boyett says crews from 12 states are working in Cape Coral to restore service, and over the past 24 hours, 11,000 customers were brought back online.
Boyett says customers without service "have particularly major damage" from the hurricane.
Representatives from both companies are unable to specify which parts of the city are still without services.
