Teacher arrested, accused of having inappropriate relationship teenager

Miami-Dade, FL - A South Florida teacher has been arrested after allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a teenager that he met online in 2021.

Carlos Montero was arrested in Broward County last week after he was accused of having sex with a 16-year-old boy that he met online who was vacationing in South Florida.

Police say Montero and the teen exchanged sexually explicit pictures and videos for several months, and that the victim "disclosed he was under 18" but "the defendant did not question him about his age."

After months of correspondence, Montero picked up the teen and drove him to his Fort Lauderdale home, where the two had sex.

Montero, a science teacher at Scheck Hillel Community School, has been employed by the school since 2018 and has been described as a teacher of the highest caliber, with career accolades that include Miami-Dade County teacher of the year and other federal recognition.

His employment at Scheck Hillel Community School remains unclear.

Montero was released on $40,000 bond. His next court date is to be determined.
