LISTEN: Tax Backers List Hillsborough's 10 Most Dangerous Intersections

GIBSONTON, FL -- Supporters of a one-cent addition to the sales tax to pay for transportation projects in Hillsborough County are making their case with a list of Hillsborough County's Ten Most Dangerous Intersections.

All but two of them are in the eastern and southern parts of the county, where Christina Barker with All for Transportation says it's a case of playing catchup, as roads and safety projects haven't kept up with growth.

U-S 301 at Gibsonton Drive is at the top of the list, according to data from the sheriff's office, with 367 crashes in the past 16 months. Two other locations on 301 are numbers two and three.

Here's the full list, according to All for Transportation, using Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Data:

· U.S. 301 at Gibsonton Dr.: 367 crashes; 13 serious injuries/fatalities

· U.S. 301 at Big Bend Rd.: 332 crashes; 14 serious injuries/fatalities

· U.S. 301 at SR 674: 207 crashes; 17 serious injuries/fatalities

· N. Florida Ave. and E. Waters Ave.: 176 crashes; 9 serious injuries/fatalities

· Lakewood Dr. and E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.: 113 crashes; 10 serious injuries/fatalities

· Fishhawk Blvd. and Boyette Rd.: 104 crashes; 10 serious injuries/fatalities

· Big Bend Rd. at Summerfield Blvd.: 97 crashes; 14 serious injuries/fatalities

· Big Bend Rd. and Summerfield Crossing Blvd.: 92 crashes; 11 serious injuries/fatalities

· County Line Rd. and U.S. 41: 76 crashes; 10 serious injuries/fatalities

· Bill Tucker Rd. and U.S. 301: 66 crashes; 9 serious injuries/fatalities

The sales tax is on the ballot next month. A similar tax was approved by voters in 2018 but thrown out by the courts.
