Sweetwater, FL - A giant Hurricane Ian relief drive is underway in South Florida.

The donation drive, organized by the city of Sweetwater is collecting critical supplies for Hurricane Ian victims at the Dolphin Mall.

On Monday, groups collected pallets of water, generators, gas cans, plywood, flashlights, batteries, tarps, tools, diapers, and non-perishable food items.

The items collected are being taken to a Global Empowerment Mission warehouse, where they'll be loaded on semis and trucked to the storm zone.

Organizers say the items should be delivered within the next two days.

Sweetwater Mayor Orlando Lopez said "we are all susceptible to being victims of any hurricane. We were lucky we were spared. So, now, let’s be good corporate neighbors, neighbors where, you know, obviously Fort Myers is two and a half hours away, but it’s still in Florida. They are still our neighbors and we need to reach out and help them right now.”

The donation drive runs Monday and Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The drive will move to Pembroke Pines on Wednesday and Thursday, where donations can be made at The Shops at Pembroke Gardens from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
