Florida's Republican governor has the support of one South Florida Democrat leader.
Palm Beach County Commissioner Dave Kerner, a Democrat who served as the county mayor for two years during the pandemic, is endorsing Governor DeSantis in his bid for re-election.
The announcement was made at an event hosted by the Palm Beach Police Benevolent Association.
The two worked closely on a few COVID-related issues but Kerner, a former police officer, cites DeSantis' support for law enforcement in a statement. He notes “Endorsing Governor DeSantis was the obvious choice. Job number one of a Governor is to keep our residents safe. No one does that better than Governor DeSantis.”
Kerner and DeSantis appeared together at the police union event in West Palm Beach on Tuesday.
