WATCH: Mar-a-Lago Affidavit Released

A redacted affidavit used to justify the FBI search of former President Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort has been released.

The Justice Department claims Trump took sensitive documents with him when he left office.

The affidavit says the investigation started with a referral from the National Archives to the DOJ in early February.

A judge ruled the government has proven parts of the affidavit should be kept under wraps because the identities of witnesses and law enforcement agents would be revealed.

Trump had said he wanted the affidavit released.
