Frequent commuters on Florida's Turnpike System and toll facilities owned by FDOT could see up to 25-percent discounts on their monthly bills under a program announced Thursday by Governor DeSantis at the Turnpike's Headquarters in Orlando.
"What we are announcing is the "SunPass Savings Program," the governor said. "The people that are on our roads a lot, obviously these are our people and we want to provide relief."
The program will begin next Thursday, September 1, and run through February and will return an estimated $38 million to customers during those 6 months. SunPass and E-Pass transponder users could get a discount of up to 25-percent for 80 or more tolls a month
"This adds up to give people some breathing room, because the inflation is causing people thousands of dollars a year," DeSantis said.
The discount won't apply to the Central Florida Expressway Authority, Miami-Dade Expressway Authority or the Selmon Expressway in Tampa. Governor DeSantis said he didn't have the authority to order those agencies to offer the discount.
