Pembroke Pines, FL - A 28-year-old South Florida man was arrested for beating an eight-month-old pit bull terrier to death.

Broward County deputies says Daniel Lamont Gray Jr. punched, kicked, and slammed the puppy, named Jack, on Wednesday in Pembroke Pines.

According to Pembroke Pines spokeswoman Amanda Conwell, witnesses saw Gray attacking Jack outside of his apartment at The Avant complex near the intersection of Southwest 119th Avenue and 15 Street.

Jack was found dead in the back of the building.

A witness called 911, but a veterinarian determined the injuries Jack suffered were fatal.

Gray was booked at the main jail in Fort Lauderdale on a felony aggravated animal cruelty charge.
