50 pounds of marijuana seized at Southwest Florida grow house

Fort Myers, FL - Police have arrested a man after over 50 pounds of marijuana was found inside his Southwest Florida grow house.

Deputies with the Lee County County Sheriff's office arrested Javier Alejandro Vargas after deputies received multiple calls reporting suspicious activity at Vargas' Fort Myers home.

Neighbors began calling LCSO in November of last year to report constant vehicles and pedestrians going into the home.

Around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Vargas was seen entering the property.

Nine minutes later, he was spotted leaving the property with a gray shopping bag.

After failing to come to a complete stop at a stop sign, deputies pulled over Vargas' vehicle and found the shopping bag contained marijuana and a large sum of cash.

LCSO then received a search warrant for Vargas’ home.

Inside his home, detectives discovered 28 mature marijuana plants, 34 juvenile marijuana plants, and multiple THC products.

The marijuana plants weighed 56.4 pounds.

It was determined the residence was not habitable and was being used for the manufacture and packaging of marijuana.

Vargas was arrested and faces charges of producing marijuana, possessing marijuana, and trafficking marijuana.
