Miami-Dade, FL - A South Florida police officer was arrested and charged with DUI over the weekend.
Coral Gables police officer Esteban Soza, 36, was observed swerving in between lanes by Florida State Troopers.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Soza was observed by troopers exiting the Dolphin Expressway onto the Palmetto Expressway on Sunday evening.
Troopers say Soza initially swerved to the left to change lanes, before exiting onto Southwest 24th Street and driving west.
Soza was pulled over by troopers who followed him after observing him veering between lanes as he drove.
When troopers approached the car, they observed Soza “reaching over the right passenger seat with what appeared to be a container.”
Soza then handed four cards to the troopers, one of which was his license, and the other three were credit and debit cards.
Troopers observed that Soza had slurred speech, red, glassy eyes and smelled of alcohol.
He failed a field sobriety test and refused a breathalyzer.
He was arrested and taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Coral Gables police say Soza has been placed on restrictive duty pending the determination of the court and an Internal Affairs Investigation.
