Pit bull kills dog, rips off South Florida woman’s fingertip during attack

Lehigh Acres, FL - A Southwest Florida woman was injured and her dog killed after a pit bull attacked them.

According to the victim, Judy Thackray, the pit bull’s owner was walking her dog when Thackray’s Bichon Frese escaped her home.

The pit bull attacked and would not let go.

Thackray tells NBC 2 News "her dog just grabbed him and just tore him apart. I mean his organs were hanging out.” 

Neighbors jumped in to help, but the pit bull would not let go.

A man with smashed the dog with a hammer to get it to release the dog.

The Bichon Frese did not survive the attack. 

Thackray had her finger tips bit by the dog during the incident.

The pit bull owner has apologized. 

The Lee County Sheriff's Office Animal Cruelty Task Force is aware of the incident and is investigating.
