Naples FL - The owner of a South Florida moving company has been arrested after allegedly stealing more than $265,000 worth of belongings from a client.
According to police, 41-year-old Christopher John Duffy has been charged with grand theft over $100,000 after he stole more than $265,000 worth of a client’s belongings, selling some of the items for cash.
Duffy, owner of ‘Move 4 U Inc.,’ was hired to pack up and move the contents of a man’s home in Bay Colony to an East Naples storage unit in November 2020.
Authorities say the victim was out of state when he hired the company to move the belongings to the facility.
The victim contact authorities in April of 2021 after meeting Duffy at the storage unit and noticing most of his belongings were missing.
The victim gave authorities a list of missing items that totaled $265,711.
Detectives discovered Duffy sold some of the items to a stranger, hiding the rest in other storage units that belonged to him.
While searching the other storage units, detectives discovered items belonging to other clients of Move 4 U Inc.
Duffy was arrested on Monday while in jail for a cocaine possession charge from the day before
