Police called on South Florida man for shooting iguanas with a pellet gun

Cape Coral, FL - A South Florida man had police called on him by neighbors because he shot iguanas in his backyard.

John Meyer was shooting iguanas with a pellet gun in the backyard of his Cape Coral home on Saturday, when neighbors called police to report him.

Meyer told NBC 2 News “I’ve had a lot of issues with them. A lot of mess I keep cleaning off.”

Meyer started shooting the iguanas with his pellet gun, using plastic-tipped pellets to kill the iguanas.

A neighbor confronted Meyer, who told the concerned citizen he was going to shoot the iguanas for leaving droppings behind on his deck and boat.

10 minutes after the confrontation, Cape Coral Police officers knocked on Meyer’s front door.

Meyer showed officers his guns and was cleared to continue shooting the iguanas, as the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission says you can kill the invasive species on your property.
