South Florida woman steals $437K from hospitalized cancer patient

Miami, FL - A woman was arrested after she allegedly stole more than $437,000 from a 70-year-old cancer patient who was hospitalized in South Florida.

Prosecutors says the suspect, identified as Ana Nunez, pretended to be the woman’s daughter to gain access to the victim, who was hospitalized in Miami-Dade, and manipulated the woman into signing a power of attorney.

According to her arrest report, Nunez convinced the victim to sign over her house, bank accounts, and everything she owned to Nunez.

Nunez was arrested on charges of organized fraud, exploitation of the elderly, and theft from the elderly of more than $50,000.

Officers also arrested the Nunez's son, identified as Pablo Figueroa, who was involved in the scheme to defraud the victim.

Nunez appeared in court on Saturday, where a judge set bond at $45,000.
