Florida Teacher Claims Firing for Discussing Sexuality in Middle School

FORT MYERS -- A Southwest Florida art teacher says she was fired from her middle school job for discussing sexuality with students.

Casey Scott told WBBH that she was let go from her job at Trafalgar Middle School after a discussion in class. Students started talking about their sexuality, with some stating they were non-binary or gay. Scott chimed in, saying that she was "pansexual", and posting various flags and other pieces of art the students made to reflect the ways they identified.

Scott says she was told to take the art down and fired. Students posted on social media backing her, while parents contacted the district, upset about the material. The district says Scott was fired for not following the curriculum.

A spokesperson for the teacher's union said Scott was on her probationary period and could be fired without cause.
