PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL - A man’s been arrested on elderly neglect charges by Florida deputies who say he locked his bedridden father in a room with no medical attention or food for days at a time.
Authorities arrested 22-year-old Jonathan Woods for neglect of an elderly/disabled adult and false imprisonment.
According to police, deputies with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting possible elderly abuse.
Police arrived at the home and spoke with the victim.
The victim told police he had been locked in a bedroom for the past eight months and was unable to move after recently suffering seizures; and that he received no medical attention from his son.
When deputies removed the man from the bedroom, cockroaches crawled out from underneath him.
The victims was covered in bed sores and feces, including on his eyebrows, ears, beard, hair, and all over his arms.
EMS took the victim to the hospital, where he told deputies that he was unable to escape the bedroom because his son would tie a string to another door in the house, preventing the bedroom door from opening.
The man told authorities he had not had any food or water in days, and that his son had been living with him as his “caregiver,” but care had become worse over the last few months.
PBCSO spoke with the man’s son who confirmed he was supposed to be the victim’s caretaker.
Woods was arrested and transported to jail where he’s being held on a $50,000 bond.
