29 Guinea Pigs Found Dead Behind Tampa Walmart

The Humane Society of Tampa Bay is trying to find whoever's responsible for what it calls a horrific, disappointing and sad situation. 29 dead guinea pigs were found on Tuesday in a wooded area of Carrollwood near a Walmart at West Waters and North Dale Mabry. "If somebody did this to a cat or a dog, people would be furious," said Society spokesperson Christine McLarty. "We just want people to know that their lives matter, too."

McLarty tells News Channel 8 14 a homeless man led them to the site, where 14 others were found alive. "We cannot say thank you enough. He is the true hero of this situation," McLarty said.

Once they've been checked over by a vet, she says the guinea pigs will be available for adoption.

The agency is offering a $1 thousand dollar reward to anyone with information that leads to an arrest.
