A familiar name in local law enforcement could soon be the next school district police chief.
The Palm Beach County School Board is slated to vote Wednesday on the hiring of Sarah Mooney.
She served as chief of police for the City of West Palm Beach from 2017 to 2019, when the agency reassigned her to a new position.
The school district is looking for its fourth police chief in about one year's time as it deals with a shortage of officers and complaints by some in the ranks about faulty equipment and low pay.
They have asked the governor for help forcing a merger with the sheriff's office, something that some board members voiced support for.
Meanwhile, Sheriff Ric Bradshaw says he has no interest in a merger.
If Mooney is hired, she would likely start on May 4th.
