Miami-Dade Marks Autism Awareness Month

Miami-Dade Commission Chair Jose "Pepe" Diaz hosting an Autism Awareness event this afternoon. Diaz sponsored a resolution back in 2009 declaring April Autism Awareness month encouraging early testing for kids. This issue is close to his heart, his niece and nephew are autistic and he's trying to do everything he can to raise awareness. Commissioner Raquel Regalado and Vice Chair Oliver Gilbert, who both have autistic kids, will be speaking at today's event about their experiences. Autism is a developmental disability impairing social abilities and communication skills. There is no known cure.
