A traffic study has determined that no traffic light is needed at an intersection where four Royal Palm Beach High students were struck by a car while waiting for their school bus. Two of them were killed.

The Traffic division of the Palm Beach County Engineering and Public Works Department has just wrapped up the study after residents in the area said a traffic light was needed to slow drivers down at the corner of Crestwood boulevard and Cypress Lake Drive.

The study also determined that there's no reason to change the 40 mile per hour speed limit in the area.

The study showed 17 accidents occurred at the intersection between 2018 and 2021, and three crashes have happened there so far this year. But the study also shows that the volume of traffic along Cypress Lake Drive is not high enough to warrant a light, even though the volume along Crestwood does.

Authorities say they will continue to monitor the intersection, but residents in the area say they will continue to fight for the changes.

The school district has moved the bus stop since the March 22nd crash.

The driver has not been charged, but the investigation continues, pending results of a blood test that could show he was impaired.
