Florida students begin taking the FSA's for the final time this week.
As of the 2022-23 academic year, the Florida Standard Assessments will be no more, but kids in grades 3 and up still have to take them for the remainder of this school year.
Governor DeSantis signed the "Student Assessments" bill into law last month, which replaces the assessment tests with a "progress monitoring system."
"Today, we come not to praise the FSA but to bury it."
The governor says the FSA's provided no feedback before the summer, while the new system will allow for progress to be monitored throughout the school year.
But the president of the Florida Education Association, the statewide teachers union, says it doesn't reduce testing and will add more work to "already overwhelmed teachers."
Progress monitoring will amount to three tests year-round.
