Woman arrested after allegedly stealing steaks from Florida grocery store

A Florida woman was arrested allegedly stealing multiple steaks from a local Publix.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Publix located at 2765 NW 49th Avenue in Ocala on Wednesday in reference to a retail theft incident.

A male employee told deputies that Mary Edith Holder placed packages of meat inside her purse and exited the store without paying.

The employee confronted Holder in the parking lot and she told him she would return the items once she was inside her vehicle.

Holder then walked to her vehicle, climbed inside, and handed four packages of meat to the employee.

As Holder drove away, the employee used his cellphone to take a picture of her license plate.

According to the MCSO report, surveillance video from inside the store showed Holder as she walked throughout the store, grabbed four packages of meat and walked away from the camera towards a man.

Once she was next to the man, they began walking down the beer aisle, and the meat packages were no longer visible.

They both walked to a cash register and the man paid for several grocery items.

Holder walked out of the front doors of the store without paying for the meat, and the employee followed her into the parking lot.

According to Publix, the total value of the meat, which consisted of two New York strip steaks and two ribeye steaks, was $127.73.

When the deputies arrived at Holder’s residence, the man who was seen with her on the surveillance footage answered the door.

Inside the residence, Holder was found hiding a bathroom behind a shower curtain.

Holder admitted she was inside the grocery store, but denied taking the packages of meat.

Holder was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail where she is currently being held on $2,500 bond.
